Relief has come for about 1,000 university students in Cross River North following the disbursement of the second tranche of a N100 million bursary by Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe.
Beneficiaries began receiving payment alerts on Monday, marking the release of the final N50 million after the first tranche was paid in December 2025.
The bursary was structured in two equal tranches of N50 million each, targeting students across the 54 wards in the senatorial district, with at least 20 beneficiaries drawn from each ward.
In a statement, the senator reaffirmed his commitment to advancing education in the constituency, noting that the initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and guardians.
Jarigbe, who chairs the Senate Committee on Gas, had earlier launched an application portal in August 2025 for students at various levels of tertiary education within the district.
At least 100 students from each of the five local government areas were selected from 11 tertiary institutions across the state.
The benefiting institutions include the University of Calabar, the University of Cross River State, the Federal College of Education Obudu, the Federal Polytechnic Ugep, and the University of Education and Entrepreneurship in Akamkpa.
Others are the Institute of Technology and Management Ugep, the College of Health Technology Calabar, and the Colleges of Nursing and Midwifery located in Calabar, Itigidi, Ogoja, and Obudu.
The initiative has been widely seen as a significant boost to students striving to complete their education amid rising economic challenges.
