In a renewed drive to strengthen grassroots cohesion and consolidate support for the administration of Governor Bassey Otu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Asset Management and Recovery, Barr. Gilbert Agbor, has sponsored the 2025 Mbuma Unity Football Tournament in Etung Local Government Area.

Presenting sporting items,  including footballs, boots, jerseys, goalpost nets, trophies, and winners’ medals, at his residence in Calabar to a delegation of youth leaders and organisers of the event, Barr. Agbor said the gesture accentuates his commitment to youth development, unity, and the promotion of peaceful coexistence.

He praised Governor Otu’s visionary leadership, noting that the administration’s development plans continue to inspire confidence across the state. “Governor Bassey Otu is doing very well, and he has very pleasant plans for Etung LGA going forward,” he said. “This is just the beginning. All these are part of my support. I will also galvanize other stakeholders, and I assure you that I will be with you from start to finish.”

Barr. Agbor also used the occasion to urge youths across Mbuma to leverage the football tournament as a rallying point to combat the rising menace of drug abuse, which he described as a serious threat to the future of young people in Etung.

He warned that if youth leaders fail to confront the problem decisively, “the younger generation will be heading toward a dangerous precipice.”

The youth delegation included Kingsley Ntue Tandu, Bendeghe Ekiem Youth Leader; Oji David, Member of the Organising Committee; Etta Roland Manyo, Youth Leader of Etomi; Divine Amba, Financial Secretary of Etung NYCN; and Edugane Ntoukwa, Youth Leader of Abia community.

Speaking in unison, they commended the wave of unity sweeping across the Mbuma bloc, describing the Mbuma Unity Cup as a major force consolidating communal harmony this Yuletide season. According to them, the renewed spirit of togetherness marks “the beginning of a socio-political renaissance in Etung, one where leadership is collectively supported and the collective good is placed above personal interests.”

They thanked Barr. Agbor for his continued support, especially his sponsorship of the Mbuma Unity Cup, which they said was an opportunity to foster mutual understanding and unity among the Mbuma bloc.

The 2025 Mbuma Unity Cup is scheduled to kick off on December 14 in Etomi community and will run through December 30, with the grand finale billed for Bendeghe Ekiem. The tournament will be played across the three communities that make up the Mbuma bloc, promoting talent discovery, cultural harmony, and youth engagement.
