Constitutional Review: South East Demands Additional Two States

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has advocated for the creation of an additional two states in the Southeast zone.

Uzodimma made the demand on Saturday during the Zonal Centre B public hearing/review of the constitution (for Imo and Abia states) held at the Eze Imo Palace, Owerri.

In the occasion attended by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Chike Olemgbe, some national and state legislators, government officials of both states and leaders of thought, Uzodimma said it was necessary to address the imbalance, commending the organisers for the public hearing.

He said: “Southeast is the only region with five states… This imbalance has led to the underrepresentation of the Southeast in critical national institutions… It is only fair and just that we ask for the creation of at least two additional states in the Southeast.”
