Man Arrested for Alleged Arson in Calabar

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 41-year-old man, Bassey Ekpo, over the alleged setting ablaze of a residence at 8 Miles, Calabar.
The incident was reported on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Ikpa Omin Police Division by the occupant of the residence, Ekemini Stephen.
Stephen reportedly told the police that he was in church when a neighbour called to inform him that his house had been set ablaze. With the assistance of neighbours, Ekpo was apprehended and taken to the police station.
During preliminary questioning, the suspect allegedly told investigators that he was sent by his 61-year-old mother, who is currently at large and has been named by the police as the alleged instigator.
Police operatives visited the scene and took photographs as investigation continues to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the involvement of other persons.
The command said anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
