Man Arrested for Alleged Arson in Calabar

‎The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 41-year-old man, Bassey Ekpo, over the alleged setting ablaze of a residence at 8 Miles, Calabar.

‎

‎The incident was reported on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Ikpa Omin Police Division by the occupant of the residence, Ekemini Stephen.

‎

‎Stephen reportedly told the police that he was in church when a neighbour called to inform him that his house had been set ablaze. With the assistance of neighbours, Ekpo was apprehended and taken to the police station.

‎

‎During preliminary questioning, the suspect allegedly told investigators that he was sent by his 61-year-old mother, who is currently at large and has been named by the police as the alleged instigator.

‎

‎Police operatives visited the scene and took photographs as investigation continues to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the involvement of other persons.

‎

‎The command said anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
