Shock As C'River Commissioner, Eka William, Dies Suddenly

The Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka William, Ph.D, has died suddenly, throwing the state’s political and public service community into mourning.
Williams was said to have died on Saturday, September 13, 2026 at a hospital in Abuja where he was receiving medical attention.
His death was announced by his brother, Nkang Williams, on Sunday morning, September 13, 2026, who disclosed that the commissioner died suddenly.
The development has added to a string of losses suffered by the administration of Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, which has now lost two commissioners and a couple of other political appointees within the span of the Governor’s first term in office.
Reacting to the loss, Nkang expressed disbelief over the sudden death, saying he was still struggling to accept that his brother, who was recently with the family, had suddenly become a memory.
He described Prince Eka William as more than a brother, but also a companion and an important part of the family, saying his death had created a void that words could hardly capture.
Nkang said that despite the pain, the family would continue to celebrate the life Prince Eka William lived, the people he touched, the knowledge he shared and the relationships he built.
“Your name will not simply be remembered because you died; you will be remembered because you lived—and your life mattered,” he said, adding that he wished he had one more opportunity to speak with his brother and tell him, “I love you.”
Quoting Psalm 116:15, Nkang said, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful servants,” as he prayed for his brother to rest peacefully and for his memory to endure among family, friends and those whose lives he touched.
The sudden death has shocked many of Prince Eka William’s friends, associates and colleagues, particularly those who had seen him only days earlier.
Michael Ogar Gabriel Jr., Executive Media Assistant to Senator John Owan-Enoh, Honourable Minister of State for Industry, FMITI, described the news as “truly heartbreaking.”
Gabriel said Ikom had lost “a dedicated public servant and a good man,” adding that Prince Eka William’s life of service, humility and impact would remain in the hearts of those he touched.
He prayed for God to grant the deceased’s family, colleagues and loved ones the strength to bear the painful loss and grant his soul eternal rest.
Also reacting to the news, Pius Kejuo Osang, former Councillor representing Abo Ward in Boki Local Government Area, expressed disbelief over the sudden development.
“I don’t understand, I was with him on Tuesday, I slept in his hotel,” Osang said, reflecting the shock and disbelief that greeted the news of the commissioner’s passing."
Also reacting, the DG of Neighbour2neighbour, Dr Bobby Ekpenyong, said: "We in the N2N community are shocked over the sudden death of one of us, Dr Eka Williams. We were with him on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at his hotel at Ikom.
"He graced our N2N inauguration of Ikom LG wards and polling units coordinators. He even promised to work with the group to ensure total delivery of Tinubu and Otu in 2027. We will miss him indeed."
