The Nigeria Football Federation has ratified major reforms to its statutes and electoral processes at its Extraordinary General Assembly held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Delegates from across the country gathered at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall to discuss measures aimed at strengthening governance and promoting the development of football nationwide.
The session opened with a minute of silence in honour of former NFF Technical Director, Adegboye Onigbinde, and ex Super Eagles captain, Henry Nwosu, alongside other stakeholders who recently passed on.
The Congress commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s support to sports, particularly in providing funding and incentives for national teams. The efforts of the National Sports Commission in repositioning Nigerian sports were also acknowledged.
Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, was praised for hosting the assembly and for his administration’s support for football development.
A major outcome of the meeting was the unanimous approval of amendments to the NFF Statutes, Electoral Code, and Standing Orders to enhance transparency and efficiency. The Congress also confirmed the composition of the Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee, with members drawn from the six geopolitical zones.
Ernst & Young was appointed as the new independent auditor of the federation for a four year term, replacing PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The next Elective Congress of the NFF was scheduled for September 26, 2026, in Lafia, Nasarawa State. A vote of confidence was passed on the NFF Executive Committee, led by President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, for its continued efforts in advancing football across Nigeria.
