Orok Duke Promises ‘Bigger, Bolder’ Tinkoriko 2027 To Spotlight Calabar Heritage

The Leader of Tinkoriko Calabar Heritage, Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke, has assured that the 2027 edition of Tinkoriko will be bigger, bolder and more distinctive, with a renewed focus on showcasing the culture and identity of Calabar and Cross River State.
In a statement, Duke said the 2027 celebration is being designed to give participants and visitors an experience that reflects the history, creativity and communal spirit of the people.
He described Tinkoriko as more than a cultural gathering, noting that it has become a platform where people of different ages and communities come together to celebrate their shared heritage.
According to him, the event also plays a key role in preserving indigenous traditions and keeping younger generations connected to their roots and values.
“Tinkoriko is about who we are as a people. It is about our history, our culture, our unity and our shared values. This coming edition will remind everyone of the beauty and strength of Calabar heritage".
"Its inclusion in the official carnival calendar has further strengthened its standing among cultural stakeholders in the state" Duke said.
Tinkoriko is part of the official Calabar Carnival and Festival programme and serves as the closing celebration of the annual carnival season. It features cultural displays and performances involving cultural groups, youths, elders and communities.
On preparations, Duke announced that Tinkoriko T-shirts and other branded items will be made available to registered members between October and December 2026. He said further details on the 2027 programme would be released to the public at the appropriate time.
The announcement has already heightened anticipation among cultural enthusiasts who look forward to another grand celebration of Calabar’s heritage and traditions.
