The Chairman of Etung Local Government Area, Hon. Henry Njar Anom, has joined the global community in celebrating the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to advancing the rights, education, and empowerment of girls across the area.
Speaking in commemoration of the Day themed “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” Hon. Anom said the theme underscores the courage, resilience, and leadership of young girls who continue to drive positive change even amid adversity.
He noted that the commemoration presents a vital opportunity to amplify the voices of girls who are challenging stereotypes, leading in innovation, and pushing for inclusive progress in their communities.
“This year’s theme is deeply inspiring because it reminds us that girls are not merely beneficiaries of change; they are its true architects,” the Chairman said. “Here in Etung, we have seen how girls are taking charge of their education, leading community initiatives, and standing firm in the face of challenges. Our duty is to continue giving them the support, protection, and opportunities they need to thrive.”
Hon. Anom emphasized that his administration remains committed to promoting girl-child education, protecting them from gender-based violence, and ensuring their inclusion in leadership and development programmes.
He urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to continue nurturing the confidence and creativity of young girls, stressing that empowering one girl creates ripple effects that transform entire communities.
“We must all stand with the girl child, not out of sympathy, but out of belief in her boundless potential to lead change,” he added.
The Chairman concluded by celebrating all girls in Etung and beyond for their resilience and contribution to shaping a brighter, more inclusive future.
