ASUU Announces Two-Week Warning Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a two-week warning strike starting October 13, 2025, due to the Federal Government's failure to address its demands.
The union's ultimatum expires on October 12, 2025, without a response to their demands from the government.
The Academic Union is demanding Funding for public universities, payment of withheld salaries, implementation of University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), review of lecturers' remuneration and welfare packages.
ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, accused the government of neglecting key aspects of the agreement and failing to act within the agreed timeframe.
“Our ultimatum expires today,” Piwuna stated on Sunday. “If nothing substantial comes from the government, our members will commence a warning strike. We can only review the decision if there’s genuine progress.”
Piwana emphasized that the strike was not politically motivated but a necessary step to defend the integrity of Nigeria’s public university system. “If the government fails to act within these two weeks, the union will convene to decide on a full-blown, indefinite strike,” he warned.
