Autopsy Planned for Boy Shot at Gov’s Residence – CP

The Cross River State Police Command has announced plans to conduct an autopsy on 22-year-old Moses Mba, who died after being shot by a police officer attached to the residence of the state governor.
The Commissioner of Police, Rasheed Afegbua, disclosed this in Calabar on Saturday, explaining that the autopsy is a key part of the ongoing investigation.
“Yes, there was a shooting, but we need to determine the exact cause of death. Was it the gunshot, or something else? We have concluded arrangements to conduct the autopsy, and the findings will be made public,” Afegbua stated.
Mba was allegedly beaten and shot in the leg on August 1 by security operatives at Governor Bassey Otu’s former residence. He reportedly visited the house to deliver what he described as a divine message for the governor.
According to his mother, Mrs. Victoria Mba, the incident led to his death on August 9 at the Naval Reference Hospital in Calabar, following complications from the injuries.
She narrated that her son had always been devoted to God’s work from a young age and was determined to deliver the message he claimed to have for the governor.
“We were away in Abia State when the incident happened. Red Cross officials rushed him to the hospital. When we arrived, he told us he had only asked to see the governor because he had a message from God,” she said.
Mrs. Mba stressed that her son, who would have turned 22 in November, deserved justice, describing his death as painful and unjust.
The Cross River State Government has condemned the incident. However, Commissioner for Information, Erasmus Ekpang, alleged that the deceased was not mentally stable and that he had approached the governor’s former residence rather than his official home.
Meanwhile, the grieving mother has called for accountability and justice over her son’s death.
