Obudu Declares Support for Tinubu, Otu’s Second Term

The people of Obudu Local Government Area have formally endorsed the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, for second terms in office.
The colourful and well-attended reception and endorsement rally, held on Saturday at the Obudu Local Government Council Secretariat Field, was organized to appreciate and recognize the performance and achievements of the current administrations at both federal and state levels.
In her opening address, the Commissioner for Sports Development and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Hon. Agnes Atsu, described the endorsement as a genuine show of gratitude and confidence in leadership.
“This endorsement is not borne out of sentiment, nor is it a mere political ritual. It is a bold and deliberate statement anchored on the performance and tangible impact of their leadership at both the federal and state levels,” she noted.
The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barr. Alphonsus Eba, praised the Obudu Council Chairman for his results-oriented approach to grassroots governance. He commended the people of Obudu for their overwhelming support for Tinubu, Shettima, Otu, and Odey, stressing that their continuity in office until 2031 is in the best interest of the people.
“This show of solidarity confirms that the APC-led government has not disappointed Nigerians. The people have spoken, and the message is clear: continuity is the way forward,” Eba declared.
Responding to the endorsement on behalf of Governor Otu, his Chief of Staff, Hon. Chief (Dr.) Emmanuel Ironbar, expressed profound appreciation to the people of Obudu for their unwavering support. He assured them of the Governor’s firm commitment to the People-First agenda, particularly in rural development, agriculture, and improved social services.
“This endorsement is not just an honour; it is also a challenge to do more. Your support inspires us to redouble our efforts. Obudu, and indeed the entire Cross River State, will continue to feel the positive impact of governance under the People-First mantra of our Governor and leader,” Ironbar stated.
He further urged residents of Obudu to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stressing that strong voter participation is crucial for consolidating their political voice ahead of the 2027 elections.
In his vote of thanks, the Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, praised Governor Otu for raising the bar in governance, particularly in addressing poverty, unemployment, and other socio-economic challenges. He also lauded the Central Planning Committee, stakeholders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, party faithful, support groups, and the people for their massive turnout, urging them to sustain their support for both President Tinubu and Governor Otu.
Goodwill messages came from notable stakeholders including Chief Eugene Ake, Dr. Paul Adalikwu, Mrs. Kate Agba-Ajibike, and the Paramount Ruler of Obudu, HRM Chief Felix Okudare. They applauded President Tinubu for his bold economic reforms and inclusive governance while commending Governor Otu for prioritizing citizens’ welfare through projects and programmes across the three senatorial districts.
The highlight of the event was the formal motion of endorsement. The motion endorsing President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima was moved by the Member representing Obanliku/Bekwarra/Obudu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Peter Akpanke, and seconded by the Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Sylvester Agabi.
Similarly, the motion for the endorsement of Governor Otu and Deputy Governor Odey was moved by elder statesman and community leader, Hon. Chief Tony Undiandeye, JP, and seconded by the immediate past Chief of Staff to the former Governor, Hon. Chief (Dr.) Martin Orim. Both motions were overwhelmingly adopted by the jubilant crowd.
