2027: High-Stakes Realignment Looms as Obi, Makinde, Dickson Visit Kwankwaso

As the 2027 elections loom, a high-stakes political realignment appears to be taking shape following the visit of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Kano. The visit, which also included Seyi Makinde and Seriake Dickson, coincided with the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Obi stressed that the visit was primarily to celebrate Sallah and show solidarity, insisting it was not political. “I am here to felicitate with you on the occasion of Sallah and to pay my respects to our leader,” he said.

Despite the non-political framing, the presence of such influential figures has sparked speculation about potential political realignments ahead of 2027. Obi highlighted his vision for Kano, emphasizing the need to restore its economic strength. “We want to change Kano. We want to build a new Kano. What we want to do is ensure that we bring back the economic power of Kano,” he added, while praying for peace, unity, and progress in the state.

Kwankwaso, hosting the dignitaries at his residence, welcomed the visit as a demonstration of national unity and goodwill among leaders. He described the gathering as a reflection of mutual respect and collaboration that transcends political divides.

The event attracted a large turnout of Kwankwaso’s supporters, who greeted the visiting leaders with enthusiasm, creating a festive and energized atmosphere. Political analysts suggest the visit could signal early strategic discussions and alignments, as key leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

With Obi, Makinde, and Dickson in attendance, observers note that the visit underscores the looming high-stakes political calculations shaping the landscape for the next general elections.
