The Proprietor of Arthur Jarvis University, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Archibong was affirmed on Sunday during the party’s direct primary election which took place across the state election and later collated in Calabar

Announcing the results, Chairman of the 2026 Governorship Primaries Electoral Committee, Dr. Clinton Chika, said 10,133 party members were accredited for the exercise.

He disclosed that Archibong, who was the sole aspirant, secured 10,130 votes to emerge as the party’s flag bearer.

Speaking after his declaration, Archibong thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and assured Cross Riverians that the PDP was prepared to reclaim power and restore what he described as the state’s lost glory.

He pledged to serve only one term in office in line with the existing zoning arrangement in the state, maintaining that four years would be sufficient to reposition governance and deliver meaningful development.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the PDP, Barr. Venatius Ikem, said the party remained deeply rooted in Cross River politics and expressed confidence that it would return to power in 2027.

Ikem noted that many politicians in the state had at one time belonged to the PDP before defecting to the All Progressives Congress in search of better political opportunities.

He called on former members of the party to return and join efforts to rebuild the state.

The primary election was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, member of the PDP Board of Trustees Barr. Effiok Cobham, and the party’s National Financial Secretary, Mr. Donatus Etim.
