Wike backed PDP faction reaffirms unity, rejects Turaki’s claims
The Peoples Democratic Party National Caretaker Committee aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the unity of the party, dismissing claims by a rival faction led by Turaki as false and illegitimate.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the committee described the claims as a deliberate attempt to undermine the integrity of the PDP and mislead party members and the general public.
At a meeting chaired by Hon. Abdulrahman Muhammed, the committee’s chairman, members reiterated that the PDP remains united and under a single, authentic leadership. Muhammed warned individuals and groups working to discredit the party to desist, stressing that actions capable of damaging the PDP’s image would not be tolerated.
The committee also dismissed as untrue reports circulating online that the Independent National Electoral Commission had recognised an executive council allegedly headed by Turaki. It challenged the rival faction to provide verifiable proof of such recognition.
According to Muhammed, Turaki should present the unique code used to upload his purported executive list on the INEC portal or any other credible evidence establishing him as the party’s national chairman. He maintained that without such proof, the claims amount to mere propaganda.
The caretaker committee stressed that only the leadership headed by Hon. Muhammed is recognised, adding that the party would resist any attempt to cause division or confusion within its ranks.
As part of efforts to strengthen internal governance, the committee dissolved some state working committees it described as ineffective, including those in Borno, Kano, Lagos and Bauchi states, and appointed caretaker teams to reposition the party in those areas.
The statement, signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, also announced the appointment of key national officers to fill vacant positions. Those appointed include Prof. Adenike Ogunshe as National Women Leader, Engr. Deji Doherty as Deputy National Secretary, Sen. Olaka Nwogu as National Treasurer, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed as National Publicity Secretary, and Amb. Dr. Ibrahim Bala Aboki as National Youth Leader.
The committee said the appointments were aimed at strengthening the party structure and repositioning the PDP for effective engagement and renewed political relevance.
