POLITICS: Minister Umahi Eyes Presidency, Says More Qualified Than Obi

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has tacitly declared his interest in Presidency once it is zoned to South East, saying he is more qualified than Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate in 2023 elections, Peter Obi.
He challenged Obi, to a public debate over their contributions to the region, explaining that he has contributed immensely to the development of Ebonyi state as a governor and still doing great to transform South East under President Tinubu,'s administration.
Speaking in a live video broadcast recently, Umahi, the former Governor of Ebonyi State, disagreed with Obi's claim of enjoying “100% support” in the South East, arguing that there is no tangible evidence or facts to claims.
In his words, Umahi said: “I saw a man running his mouth, saying the only place he has 100% support is the South East. If the presidency will come to the South East, I should be at the forefront because of my performance.”
"My achievements in Ebonyi State speak louder than any political slogan. True leadership must be measured by concrete results and developmental impact, not mere popularity.
“Let us go head-to-head. Governor to governor, record to record.
"God had used me to transform Ebonyi, and that through President Bola Tinubu’s administration, I am now positioned to serve the South East on a larger scale."
He cautioned against relying solely on emotions when it comes to politics, stressing that sustainable progress depends on strategic alliances with the ruling government.
According to him, all South East governors currently support President Tinubu, pointing out that states like Ebonyi, Abia, Enugu, and Anambra are already reaping benefits from their relationship with the APC-led federal government.
“My message to Ndigbo is simple: we must re-engage. Leadership comes by performance and God’s timing, not sentiment. When the moment comes, no one can block it,” Umahi said, insisting that his track record gives him an edge over Obi.
