2027: Turaki Led PDP Presents Udayi as C'River Guber Candidate, Claims Authentic Leadership
By Missang AKPET
The Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the Tanimu Turaki led National Working Committee, has presented its full list of candidates for the 2027 general elections declaring the faction the "authentic and legally recognized" leadership of the PDP in the state.
Addressing journalists in Calabar on Friday, the factional Gubernatorial Candidate, Julius Udayi, said it was necessary to clear the air and counter what he described as misleading narratives by individuals falsely parading themselves as PDP candidates.
Udayi said the party has duly nominated flag bearers for the 3 Senatorial positions, 8 House of Representatives positions, and 25 House of Assembly positions who emerged under the Turaki led authentic NWC.
"Following the judgments of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, it is our position that the Tanimu Turaki led leadership remains the authentic and legally recognized leadership of the Peoples’ Democratic Party," Udayi stated.
"It is under this leadership that all of us standing before you today emerged as duly nominated candidates of the party" he said.
Udayi alleged that certain individuals have been going around Cross River State presenting themselves to Cross Riverians as PDP candidates under a different platform, but insisted such claims do not represent the authentic leadership, structure, or duly recognized candidates of the Peoples’ Democratic Party.
He called on party faithful, stakeholders, security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the general public to disregard what he termed political misinformation designed to create confusion among the electorate.
The gubernatorial candidate reaffirmed the commitment of the Turaki led PDP in Cross River to credible leadership, democratic principles, and working tirelessly for the peace, progress, and prosperity of the state.
"We respectfully solicit the continued support, trust, and cooperation of all Cross Riverians as we move forward together under the leadership of the Tanimu Turaki led Peoples Democratic Party," Udayi added.
The declaration comes amid the ongoing national leadership crisis in the PDP, with two factions laying claim to the party’s structure with barely 6 months to the 2027 elections.
