SPORTS: NIS To Cleanup database, Revalidate All Certificates in 2026
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute of Sports Philip Shaibu says the institute is cleaning up its database and will revalidate all certificates by the second quarter of 2026.
He disclosed this in Calabar at the sidelines of the 2nd National Council on Sports meeting with the theme: The Business of Sports: Creating jobs, wealth and utility under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Justifying the measure, he said the cleanup is in line with global standards and to ensure that NIS certificates are accepted globally.
"We are cleaning up our database and data bank", he said. "From the second quarter of 2026, anybody that passed through the NIS must come back for revalidation.
"Any of these certificates we revalidate will be in our databank and anyone who does not find his name in our website means that certificate is not from NIS.
"We are standardizing all our activities to make it in line with global practice and ensure that our certificates are acceptable globally", he said.
He also disclosed that the curriculum of the institute has been overhauled and they have brought in courses like diving, scouting, sports physiotherapy, among others.
Besides this, he said the institute is also bringing back its core duties which includes monitoring players to check their performance metabolism, nutrition to bring out the best in our athletes.
