Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has extended financial and material relief to victims of the devastating windstorm and flood that struck Ndieze Inyimagu, Abakaliki Local Government Area, on May 27, 2025.
The disaster, which claimed the life of Mrs. Elizabeth Nwaji and left several others injured, displaced about 100 residents and destroyed properties.
Presenting ₦50 million and 200 bags of rice on behalf of the governor at the Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki, Commissioner for Human Capital Development, Mrs. Ann Anigwe, said the beneficiaries had been profiled to ensure transparent and targeted support.
She urged residents living in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer zones to avoid future tragedies.
“This assistance is the governor’s way of showing empathy and standing with you in this difficult time. Please, use the funds wisely,” Anigwe advised.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, saying the aid arrived when they needed it most.
Evangelist Stephen, a community leader, described the incident as unprecedented in the area’s history. “We lost a woman dear to us, Mrs. Nwaji Elizabeth, whose wake-keep begins tomorrow. The tragedy shook our village and the entire state,” he said.
Mrs. Felicia Nwamini, a widow with seven children, recounted how the storm tore off her roof and ruined her family’s food supplies. “Our governor has remembered us. Through this gesture, I received ₦500,000 to start afresh,” she said
