Kwankwaso Dumps NNPP, Cites Political Realignment
Former Governor of Kano State and the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced his resignation from the party, citing the need for a political realignment.
In a statement dated March 29, Kwankwaso said his decision takes immediate effect, ending his position as the party’s National Leader. He described the move as difficult, noting that it was an honour to fly the party’s flag during the 2023 general elections.
According to him, developments in the country’s political environment informed his decision to seek another platform capable of providing what he described as a better opportunity to bring meaningful change.
Kwankwaso appreciated the leadership of the party, including National Chairman Ajuji Ahmed, members of the National Working Committee, the Board of Trustees, National Executive Committee, and other stakeholders for their support throughout his stay in the NNPP. He also acknowledged loyalists of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
Despite stepping down, the former governor called for cooperation among political actors in pursuit of national growth and stability, expressing optimism about working collectively for a more prosperous Nigeria.
