Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe has pledged N10m for the construction of the Ogoja Bar Centre following a fire incident that destroyed the High Court.
The court, located in the Government Reserved Area of Ogoja, was completely razed, leaving the structure unusable and disrupting judicial activities in the area.
During an inspection visit to the site, the lawmaker expressed concern over the extent of the damage and stressed the importance of restoring the court to ensure access to justice for residents.
Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Ogoja Branch, Barrister Mathias Adeshi, commended the senator for his prompt intervention. He disclosed that the association is making arrangements to convert its Bar Centre into a temporary courtroom to sustain legal proceedings.
“The courtroom we used has been destroyed. We are currently managing a small hall and working to upgrade it into a temporary court,” Adeshi said.
In recognition of his support for the legal community and development of the district, the NBA Ogoja Branch presented Senator Jarigbe with an Award of Distinguished Recognition.
Responding, the senator thanked the association for drawing attention to the situation, noting that the judiciary remains critical to maintaining order in society.
“Without a functional justice system, society cannot thrive. It is important that we support efforts to restore this facility,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening institutions in Cross River North and ensuring that the needs of his constituents are addressed.
