By Ekanem ASUQUO
Monarchs across Cross River State have endorsed Governor Bassey Otu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing his achievements in governance and development.
The endorsement came during the first quarterly meeting of traditional rulers in 2026, held at the State Council of Chiefs Chambers in Calabar. The royal fathers praised the governor’s performance in infrastructure development, peacebuilding, grassroots governance, and restoring public confidence, noting that his leadership has helped steer the state away from the brink of collapse.
Leading the motion, the Paramount Ruler of Bakassi, Etinyin Barr. Etim Okon Edet, stated that securing a second term has become a norm since the return of democracy in Nigeria, and Prince Bassey Otu’s record merits it.
“Aside from the fact that a second term has become almost automatic, Prince Bassey Otu deserves it based on his impressive performance,” Edet said.
The Paramount Ruler of Ikom, HRM Minen Takon Atangba Nkpa, emphasized that re-election would enable Otu to consolidate his people-oriented projects and further advance the state’s development.
In his remarks, the Bekwarra Paramount Ruler, Chief Linus Ogbeche Odey, lauded Governor Otu for his transformative leadership and commitment to progress.
The endorsement, presided over by the Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council and Paramount Ruler of Abi, Ovai Solomon Osim Edward, signals strong grassroots support for Governor Otu as he seeks to continue his governance agenda in Cross River State.
