IPOB Announces End to Monday Sit at Home in South East
By Ekanem Asuquo
The Indigenous People of Biafra has announced the permanent cancellation of the Monday sit at home order across the South East, effective from Monday, February 9, 2026.
The group said the decision was directed by its leader, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has instructed residents of the region to resume their normal activities without fear or intimidation.
In a statement issued by IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group said all markets, schools, offices, transport services, and other economic activities are to operate fully and normally going forward.
The statement warned that any individual or group attempting to enforce a sit at home order would be acting against the directive of Nnamdi Kanu and contrary to the interests of the Biafran struggle.
IPOB also expressed concern over possible false flag operations and acts of intimidation by opponents, urging residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law abiding while carrying out their legitimate activities.
The group further stated that no state governor has the authority to threaten or shut down the businesses of traders who choose to operate lawfully. It added that any decision relating to market renovation or relocation must involve the consent of relevant stakeholders and the provision of alternative trading spaces before implementation.
IPOB called on parents to ensure that their children return to school and urged residents of the South East to embrace unity, peace, and lawful conduct as the region returns to normal economic and social life.
The announcement effectively brings to an end a long running weekly shutdown that has disrupted commercial, educational, and social activities across the South East for several years.
