Imo State Governor receives applause for approving N104,000 Minimum Wage

The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, has received applause for approving a new minimum wage of N104,000 for civil servants in the state.
Speaking to BEAGLE NEWS, a civil servant in the state, Mr. Chukwuka Onwuneme said that he was overjoyed when he heard the news and prayed for it to become a reality considering the high cost of living in the state. "I was overjoyed when I heard that our Governor has approved N104,000 as minimum wage in the state. I pray that this should be implemented soon. My colleagues in the office have also been so joyous since they heard the news." Onwuneme, said. Also, Mrs. Ijeoma Okezie expressed excitement and hoped that it will go a long way to cater for her transportation fares as well as address her basic needs. "This is the best news I have received this year. It is a thing of joy for me and my family because when implemented, the minimum wage will take care of the huge transportation fares I have been paying to work. It has really been difficult coping with the high rates of transportation fares. With the new minimum wage, one can have some relief. Also, the minimum wage can solve at least, some of my basic needs and those of my family members." Visibly excited Okezie, said.
Governor Uzodinma had during a meeting recently, with various labour unions in the state, announced the minimum wage increment from N76,000 to N104,000. He also announced the increment for medical doctors from N 215,000 to N503,000, while that of teachers in tertiary institutions was increased from N119,000 to N222,000.
According to Uzodinma, "when workers are paid well, productivity rises, families are happier and the local economy grows." He added that the minimum wage increment was a way of investing in Imo people and acknowledged that the state's Internally Generated Revenue had risen from N400 Million to over N3 Billion monthly.
