No Signed Agreement With ASUU, Says Education Minister

Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa has denied allegations that the government signed agreements with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), stating that the referenced documents were mere proposals.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Alausa clarified that the 2009 and 2011 documents cited by ASUU as binding agreements were never signed.

Alausa emphasized that President Bola Tinubu's administration is committed to resolving outstanding issues with the lecturers' union.

He also dismissed reports of a scheduled meeting with ASUU and the Minister of Labour and Employment as inaccurate.

The minister's statement comes after the Tinubu administration released N50 billion to settle earned academic allowances owed to university lecturers and staff.

ASUU however continues to demand clear commitments on improved salaries, conditions of service, university funding, autonomy, and a review of laws governing the National Universities Commission and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
