Gov Okpebholo Warns Edo Commissioners: ‘No Tinubu Cap, No Entry to EXCO’

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has cautioned his newly appointed commissioners to demonstrate loyalty and unity by wearing the “Asiwaju cap,” popularly associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during Executive Council meetings.
The governor gave the directive on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of 20 commissioners and members of various boards in Benin City.
Governor Okpebholo, who credited the formation of his cabinet to the support of President Tinubu, said the administration’s success would not have been possible without the backing of the President.
“This could not have happened if we did not have a responsible President,” Okpebholo stated. “We have had several elections in the past where the sitting president was not with us. But now, things have changed. So, let me be clear: if you come to EXCO in traditional attire without this Asiwaju cap, you will go back.”
The governor also warned that his administration would not tolerate corruption or any form of misconduct that could tarnish the image of the government. He emphasized that the appointments were made strictly on merit and not as political rewards.
“Your nominations did not come as a reward or patronage, but as a call to serve the people of Edo State. Our focus is on service delivery and tangible results that can be felt in every community across our state, not propaganda,” he said.
Governor Okpebholo charged the new appointees to uphold integrity and contribute meaningfully to the growth and stability of the state.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Festus Ebea thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them and pledged total commitment to his administration’s development agenda.
The ceremony was attended by top government officials, party leaders, and guests who expressed optimism about the new cabinet’s ability to deliver on the governor’s vision for a better Edo State.
