GOV. ENO COMMENDS JMK COMPANY LTD ON QUALITY JOB DELIVERY AT JETTY TERMINAL AND SHORE PROTECTION PROJECT IN ORON

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has expressed his profound satisfaction with the remarkable progress and quality of work exhibited by JMK Construction Company in the ongoing Oron Jetty Terminal and Shore Protection Project. The Governor made this commendation during an unannounced inspection visit to the project site, where he was given a detailed briefing by the contractors and stakeholders involved in the project.
"I am extremely impressed with the level of dedication, professionalism, and expertise displayed by JMK Construction Company in the execution of this critical project. The quality of work done so far is a testament to their commitment to excellence and their confidence in the future of Akwa Ibom State," Gov. Eno stated.
The Governor said the development would “restore Oron’s maritime pride and create sustainable livelihoods for our people.” While also directed the rehabilitation of the Oron Museum, recognizing that culture and commerce must move together.
The Oron Jetty Terminal and Shore Protection Project, a flagship initiative of the Akwa Ibom State Government, is designed to transform the maritime landscape of Oron and position it as a major hub for trade and commerce in Nigeria. The project encompasses the construction of a modern jetty terminal, shore protection infrastructure, and ancillary facilities aimed at facilitating seamless cargo handling and maritime operations.
Governor Eno, who was accompanied on the visit by key officials of the state government and management staff of JMK Construction Company, expressed his gratitude to the contractor for their steadfast commitment to delivering quality work. He emphasized that the successful completion of the project would not only elevate the socio-economic status of Oron but would also contribute significantly to the overall development of Akwa Ibom State.
In his response, speaking on behalf of the management of JMK Construction Company, Chief Faysal Harb expressed their appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for the opportunity given them to contribute to the development of Akwa Ibom State. They assured that they would continue to work diligently to ensure the project is completed within the stipulated timeline and to the highest standards of quality.
It's a known fact that for years, the conversation around Nigeria’s blue economy has been aspirational, often framed as future potential rather than lived reality. Yet for coastal communities in Akwa Ibom State, especially Oron, the blue economy has always been really shaping livelihoods, trade routes and identity. What changed was not the sea, but the political will anchored by the present government to harness it.
Nigeria’s fisheries and aquaculture sector alone contributes an estimated 1.1 percent to GDP and employs millions directly and indirectly, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization. Akwa Ibom, with the longest coastline in the country and one of West Africa’s richest fishing belts, should have been a dominant player. Instead, years of poor infrastructure, insecurity and policy neglect shrank opportunities and pushed communities to the margins of an economy they helped sustain
The Oron Jetty Terminal and Shore Protection Project is expected to be a game-changer for the local economy, create jobs, and enhance trade opportunities in the region.
