Egbona Greets Constituents on Independence Day Celebration

The member representing Abi/Yakurr people in the House of Representatives, Dr Alex Egbona, has urged the people of his constituency to continue to support the federal and Cross River State governments.
Egbona said this in a message to his constituents to mark the 65th Independence Day celebration of Nigeria.
While praising the president, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and his state governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, for what he called their selfless interest in the development of the people, the lawmaker said it was necessary to keep hopes alive, as there were better days ahead.
He said: "Today, we celebrate the anniversary of Nigeria's independence with so much hope of a better future.
"God has blessed this country with so many resources and has also blessed us with leaders who are committed to the welfare of the people.
"We may not have got to where we aspire to be as a people, but we are certainly not where we were 65 years ago. God is taking us somewhere. All we need to do is to be patient with our leaders, knowing that they have good intentions for us.
"Our constituency has experienced some positive changes in the last six years since you elected me to represent you in the National Assembly.
"We have experienced projects and programmes that had eluded us before now.
"Through God and with the support of Mr President, my governor, my colleagues in the National Assembly and my constituents, I have been able to attract meaningful projects to Abi/Yakurr.
"We have seen solar powered boreholes, electricity projects, classroom blocks with facilities, including desks and writing materials, new and renovated health centres that have also been properly equipped, as well as the empowerment of the people through capacity building, scholarships and financial provisions.
"My bills and motions have created a path for new infrastructure in and beyond our constituency.
"Only a few weeks ago, a public hearing was held in the National Assembly, following my motion for an Act for the establishment of a federal institute of mining and geosciences.
"When established, the institute will provide courses of instruction, training and research in the exploration of mineral development and other related matters. Our people will be gainfully employed there and the economy of our state will receive a boost.
"This is even as we await the assent of Mr President to the bill for the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, Itigidi, which I sponsored."
While wishing his constituents a happy celebration, Egbona urged them to get ready for his next town hall meeting, where he would give a full account of his stewardship and also get feedback from them on their expectations, ahead of next year's budget preparation.
