Cross River PDP Fumes at NEC Over ADC Loyalists

By Benjamin GBOR

The Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed outrage at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), accusing it of shielding African Democratic Congress (ADC) loyalists allegedly working to destabilize the PDP in the state.

Speaking in Calabar, the State Chairman of the party, Venatius Ikem, Esq., alleged that some former members who defected to the ADC were now disguising as PDP stakeholders to infiltrate and sow confusion within the party.

Ikem described their actions as “deliberate sabotage” aimed at weakening the PDP’s internal cohesion and destabilizing its structure ahead of future elections.

“It is both unfortunate and embarrassing to see conflicting statements purportedly emanating from our headquarters. Rather than sanctioning those who publicly declared for the ADC, some individuals are busy questioning the integrity of our peaceful and transparent state congress and even appointing these same defectors as caretaker committee members,” he stated.

The chairman maintained that the recently concluded congress in Cross River State was duly conducted in line with the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended) and the National Working Committee (NWC) guidelines. He said the newly elected executive had been inaugurated and had already begun its duties.

“We have records showing that those challenging the congress outcome are no longer PDP members. They openly pledged allegiance to another party and cannot now attempt to infiltrate the PDP to cause confusion,” Ikem warned.

He stressed that over 80 percent of the party’s ward and chapter structures remain intact and loyal to the state leadership.

“Our base is solid and focused. We will not allow infiltrators or political merchants to derail our progress. Such elements must be shown the way out,” he added.

Ikem reaffirmed the state chapter’s loyalty to the NEC and urged the national leadership to uphold fairness, justice, and respect for the will of members.

“The Cross River PDP remains united, disciplined, and law-abiding. We will defend the sanctity of our constitution and the integrity of our structures,” he declared.
