Cross River Govt Debunks Report of 10 New COVID-19 Cases, Confirms Only One Case
The Cross River State Government has dismissed reports claiming 10 new COVID-19 cases were discovered in the state, calling the publication by DAILY TRUST NEWSPAPER “misleading” and inaccurate.
In a statement on Thursday, the Cross River state Commissioner for Health Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk clarified that Cross River still has only one confirmed case of COVID-19, with no additional infections recorded.
The rebuttal follows a Daily Trust report headlined “Cross River Identifies 10 More Persons With COVID Symptoms,” which suggested a possible spread.
Dr. Ayuk said the 10 individuals mentioned are contacts of the single confirmed case, identified through routine contact tracing and not new or suspected cases.
“As clearly communicated during our press briefing in Calabar on April 21, there are no additional confirmed cases in Cross River State,” Ayuk said.
He added that none of the contacts are showing COVID-19 symptoms as they have been placed under home isolation and are being monitored daily by health officials as a preventive measure.
The Ministry stressed the difference between contacts who had close interaction with a confirmed case and a suspected cases which show symptoms and confirmed cases tested positive in a lab.
Ayuk urged residents to disregard unverified reports and rely on official updates adding that the situation remains under control with no cause for alarm.
