The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Cross River State, has sworn in its newly elected officials.
The swearing-in ceremony which was attended by party stakeholders, newly elected executive members, and supporters across the state, took place in Calabar on Monday, September 29, 2025, with Dr. Ann Agi administering the oath of office.
Speaking shortly after the swearing-in, the re-elected State Chairman, Venatius Ikem commended party leaders and members for their resilience and support through what he described as “turbulent moments.”
He recalled the challenges that trailed the last four years, noting that despite setbacks, especially after the party’s electoral loss, the PDP remained strong at the grassroots level.
“Most importantly, I believe there is nothing like unity. If we have a united front, a united purpose, we will achieve great results,” he said.
The Chairman expressed confidence that with the mix of returning and new executive members, the party is set to “rejig its focus” and strengthen its structures ahead of next year’s elections.
He also praised the commitment of PDP leaders across the state who, according to him, have sustained the party “as though it were in government.”
“My return in these very strange circumstances tells me clearly that God is not done with us yet. I believe God has a purpose for us to achieve by next year’s election, and we will achieve it together,” he added.
The Chairman urged party members to put aside personal interests and bickering, stressing the need to harness the potentials at the grassroots to return the PDP to “winning ways.”
He further appreciated the chapter chairmen and leaders who stood solidly by the party and assured them of purposeful leadership that would make them proud.
Also speaking, the Ogoja Chapter Chairman, Comrade Odidi Emmanuel Achong, explained the timing of the exercise.
“This was the very day the tenure of the last administration terminated, and we cannot keep a vacuum in an office. That is why we carried out the swearing-in today,” he stated.
He dismissed claims that the re-election of the previous executive was a miscalculation, insisting that it was a unanimous endorsement by delegates.
“PDP is a strong political party that needs sanity. We stood firm to ensure the executive returned to keep the party united,” Achong added.
