Cross River Lawmaker Samuel Neji Abang Vows Support for Ikom Fire Victims After Devastating Fire Outbrake

The member representing Ikom 1 state constituency in the Cross River state House of Assembly Hon Samuel Neji Abang has sympathized with the with victims of the recent Ikom fire outbreak for their loses.
The fire outbreak which occurred around 4 a.m on Thursday September 25 gutted down a story building and some adjoining buildings along Okim Osabor street rendering several households homeless and destroying some business premisses.
The lawmaker who was accompanied by the Director General of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr. Antigha Gill expressed sympathy to those affected by the devastating event stating that the loss of property, livelihoods, and in some cases, loved ones, is truly heartbreaking.
"You are not alone, we stand with you in this difficult time and will do everything we can to support you, work together to rebuild and recover as well as provide support to those affected and do everything we can to prevent such tragedies in the future" Abang said.
He acknowledged the swift response of his excellency the governor of Cross River state Senator Bassey Otu for his swift response in sending the SEMA team to access the damage suffered while pledging to collaborate with SEMA to facilitate relief materials for the affected victims.
The DG, Cross River State SEMA, Mr. Antigha Gill, sympathized with the victims and enjoined them to remain patient while assuring them that the Governor, will in no time provide them with relief materials to leverage their suffering.
Victims of the incident who spoke to our reporter, commended the effort of the Ikom Fire Service for their quick response while applauding the Cocoa Association Of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter for donating the firefighting truck which had been of help to the Ikom fire service and the residents at karge.
They appealed to the state government to provide more or firefighting equipments and machinery in the area adding that, if there more trucks, the damage would have been minimal.
Speaking on behalf of Ikom Local Government Council, the Vice Chairman, Hon Maurice Ekpando hinted that the council had immediately provided the victims with temporary accommodations for the meantime while sorting out modalities to assist the victims to go back to their normal lives.
