By Ekanem Asuquo
Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe has urged political stakeholders in Cross River North to maintain decorum and unity as the re election season gathers momentum.
Addressing constituents, the lawmaker expressed appreciation for their support while cautioning against inflammatory language and personal attacks, despite competition from aspirants including former governor Ben Ayade.
“I urge you to avoid uncouth words against any aspirant. No insults, no personal attacks, no abusive language. We must rise above that,” he said.
Jarigbe stressed that campaigns should focus on ideas and performance rather than hostility, noting that all aspirants deserve respect.
“Our engagement must be defined by ideas, not insults,” he added, while also calling for respect for the office of the governor regardless of differing views.
“Let us critique records, not abuse persons,” he said.
He further advised political actors to remain responsive to public sentiment, stressing that the will of the people should guide political ambition.
“We must listen to the voices of our people and not deny the obvious,” he noted.
Reaffirming unity within the All Progressives Congress, the senator warned against actions that could divide party members after the primaries.
“No ambition is worth destroying the unity we share,” he said, urging all stakeholders to campaign with honour and restraint.
Political activities in the district have intensified in recent weeks as aspirants mobilise ahead of party primaries, with heightened public interest and growing calls for peaceful engagement among supporters.
Observers say the appeal underscores the need for issue based campaigns and disciplined conduct to sustain democratic values and political stability in Cross River State.
