Nigeria Ranks Third in Sub‑saharan Terrorism Impact, Index Shows

Statisense’s 2025 Global Terrorism Index (GTI) places Nigeria third in the Sub-Saharan region with a score of 7.792.

Trailing only Burkina Faso (8.324) and Niger (7.816), terrorism in Nigeria seems to have hit a new height.

The ranking reflects persistent attacks by insurgents in the northeast, banditry in the northwest and secessionist violence in parts of the southeast.

Mali (7.586) and Somalia (7.391) round out the top five, while DR Congo, Cameroon, Mozambique, Benin and Kenya complete the top 10 most terrorism affected countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Security analysts urge renewed regional cooperation and community‑based interventions in a bid to reverse the trend.
