Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State was thrown into celebration on Monday as Senator Eteng Jonas Williams arrived for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate primaries for Cross River Central Senatorial District.

The visit attracted a large crowd of party faithful and supporters, with heightened political activities and cultural displays across communities as preparations for the primaries gathered momentum.

Eteng Jonas Williams was warmly received in Yakurr by enthusiastic supporters who expressed confidence in his chances ahead of the party’s selection process.

The visit formed part of ongoing consultations within the All Progressives Congress as aspirants continue engagements across Cross River Central Senatorial District.

Party stakeholders used the opportunity to reaffirm their support, describing him as a strong contender based on his performance and growing influence in the region.

The legislator received warm receptions at Assiga and Iyima.

Political developments in Cross River Central have continued to attract attention following reports that Senator Eteng may emerge unopposed after the alleged disqualification of his main challenger, Oden Ewa, a Commissioner for Special Duties in the state government. The development reportedly sparked celebrations in several parts of the senatorial district.

Addressing a mammoth crowd in Yakurr, Senator Eteng Jonas Williams dismissed claims of underperformance, describing them as deliberate attempts to discredit his achievements and public service record.

He said his representation remains firmly anchored on human capital development, which he identified as his top priority, adding that education and empowerment programmes will continue to define his legislative agenda.

The senator disclosed that he has facilitated over 36 foreign scholarships for constituents during his first term, alongside employment opportunities and various empowerment initiatives.

Williams also highlighted his contributions to school infrastructure across the district and pointed to an ongoing skills acquisition programme aimed at expanding youth empowerment and capacity building.

He acknowledged that some constituency projects have experienced delays due to funding constraints but expressed optimism that improved budget releases and federal interventions would enhance project delivery.

The lawmaker assured constituents of greater impact if re-elected, stressing that his position as a ranking senator would strengthen his ability to attract more development projects and dividends of democracy to Cross River Central.
