UNICAL Moves to End Over Admissions, Tightens Recruitment Process
By Benjamin GBOR
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar has announced a series of reforms aimed at sanitising the institution’s admission system, curbing certificate racketeering and strengthening administrative transparency.
He disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday, noting that the administration had taken decisive steps to halt over admissions and restore credibility to the university.
He said the Central Admissions Committee had been reconstituted, while disciplinary action had been initiated against officials linked to irregular admissions.
He also warned against certificate racketeering and employment fraud, stressing that recruitment into the university would henceforth be conducted strictly through publicly advertised vacancies based on merit and institutional needs.
According to him, the management is also addressing infrastructural deficits, improving student welfare and digitising institutional records to enhance efficiency. He added that efforts are ongoing to strengthen campus security and promote transparency in governance.
The Vice Chancellor called on stakeholders and the media to support the administration’s vision, which is anchored on excellence, innovation and integrity, assuring that further reforms aimed at repositioning the institution would be unveiled in subsequent engagements.
