The Cross River State Police Command has presented financial support to the families of deceased officers in recognition of their sacrifice in active service.

The ceremony, held on April 2, 2026, formed part of activities marking National Police Day and the ongoing Police Week celebrations across the country, an annual period dedicated to honouring the contributions and sacrifices of police personnel while strengthening public appreciation for their role in maintaining peace and security.

The Commissioner of Police, Rashid B. Afegbua, presented the cheques on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

A total of seventeen families of fallen officers benefited from the exercise, with a combined payout of ₦9,572,581.71 under the Group Life Assurance and the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme.

Afegbua said the gesture reflects the commitment of the police leadership to the welfare of its personnel and the families of those who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. He added that the support serves as a mark of appreciation for the sacrifices made in protecting lives and property across the country.

The event, held at the Command Headquarters in Calabar, had in attendance members of the Command Management Team.

The Command reiterated its dedication to the welfare of officers and the families of fallen personnel, assuring continued support under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police.

Authorities noted that the initiative aligns with nationwide activities during Police Week aimed at boosting morale within the force and reinforcing trust between the police and the public.
