Time to Rebuild, Restore Trust in PDP, Says Cross River Caretaker Chairman, Ewa

The newly appointed Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa, has called for unity and reconciliation among party members, declaring that it is time to rebuild and restore trust in the party.
Ewa made the statement during his inaugural address on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, in Calabar, where he officially assumed leadership of the state chapter of the party.
According to him, the PDP in Cross River has suffered setbacks due to internal divisions, exclusion, and personal interests that undermined the collective spirit of the party.
“For too long, our great party in this state has been divided by personal interests and narrow leadership styles. We cannot continue with a system where the opinion of a few people, even when wrong, is treated as law, while the majority are silenced. That is not democracy,” he stated.
Ewa emphasized that under the previous administration, the PDP lost members, elections, and the trust of the grassroots—an outcome he described as “painful but avoidable.”
He said the new caretaker team, composed of 18 members representing each local government area, has been mandated by the National Working Committee (NWC) to reconcile members, rebuild party structures, and prepare the PDP to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and beyond.
“The time has come to rebuild. The time has come to restore trust, fairness, and inclusiveness in our party,” Ewa declared.
“Henceforth, the PDP in Cross River State will be guided by openness, justice, and collective decision-making.”
He urged all stakeholders—those who stayed, those who left, and those “watching from the sidelines”—to return to the party, describing the PDP as a “sweet home” for every loyal member.
“Let us therefore put behind the bitterness of the past and embrace unity,” he said.
“If we work together, speak together, and stand together, the PDP will rise again, stronger, wiser, and more determined to deliver good governance to our people.”
Ewa assured that the committee would be driven by service, not personal ambition, and called on members to approach the new chapter with hope and humility.
He concluded with optimism, saying, “With God on our side and unity in our hearts, victory is certain.”
