A delegation from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Abuja, on Tuesday, September 7, 2025, visited the University of Education and Entrepreneurship (UEE), Akamkpa, Cross River State, for an intervention enlistment assessment, marking a major step toward the institution’s inclusion in TETFund’s development support scheme.

Welcoming the team to the university, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Patrick N. Asuquo, expressed joy over the visit and commended TETFund’s consistent efforts in strengthening tertiary education across Nigeria. He described the assessment as a defining moment that could open new opportunities for academic and infrastructural advancement at UEE Akamkpa.

Professor Asuquo recalled that the former College of Education, Akamkpa, benefited greatly from several TETFund projects before its upgrade to a full-fledged university. He noted that the transformation had broadened the institution’s mandate and increased its developmental needs.

“The establishment of this university is rooted in a vision to raise a new generation of educators, innovators, and leaders with both academic and entrepreneurial skills,” he stated. “To sustain this vision, we rely on TETFund’s continued support and collaboration, which remain crucial to our progress and future.”

In her response, the Team Leader and TETFund Chief Planning Officer, Mrs. Abigail Egbe, thanked the university management for the warm reception and commended UEE’s level of organization and preparedness.

According to her, the visit was aimed at conducting an on-site verification of the university’s academic and administrative structures to determine its readiness for enlistment.

“This exercise goes beyond inspection. It represents a partnership built on progress and accountability,” Mrs. Egbe explained. “Our mission is to assess, guide, and strengthen institutions to meet the benchmarks required for accessing TETFund intervention as newly established universities.”

She assured the management that TETFund remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting UEE Akamkpa’s pursuit of excellence and institutional development.

Accompanying the Vice Chancellor during the visit were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Dr. Benedict Ugbong; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Dr. (Mrs.) Patience O. Ebam; Registrar, Amb. Dr. Gabriel Egbe; Bursar, Dr. Eyo Ekpe; University Librarian, Dr. Christopher Ofem; Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Rosemary Agba; Director of Works and Services, Engr. Bassey Ibok Eyo; and Principal Technical Officer, Arch. Giwa Bolakale, among others.

The visit featured a guided tour of the university’s faculties and facilities, followed by a brief exit meeting and a group photograph that marked the end of the exercise.

With the successful completion of the assessment, UEE Akamkpa moves closer to inclusion in the TETFund intervention list, a development expected to accelerate its infrastructural growth, enhance academic excellence, and ensure long-term sustainability.
