GRASSROOTS: Biase Council Chairman Sacks Aides For Collecting Christmas Gifts From Rep Member

Bassey BASSEY

THE chairman of Biase local government area, Mr Edodi Eyong, has sacked his aides for allegedly collecting Christmas gifts from the member representing Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency, Dr. Emil Inyang.

Rep Inyang hails from Biase and was a two time Chairman of Biase local government before being elected into House of Representatives in 2023.

The aides said to have been discreetly sacked are Mr. Charles Uno Ukam, the Chief Press Secretary, and the protocol officer to Vice Chairman, Mr Cornell Edadi Obin.

Sources close to the council revealed that there is a close relationship between Chairman Eyong and Rep Inyang as the former is said to be against the later's plan to re-election in 2027.

Beside, it was gathered that Eyong has not forgiven Inyang for allegedly not supporting his emergence as Council chairman.

Another source hinted THE BEAGLE NEWS that the council chairman is working in tandem with some power brokers to thwart Inyang"a second term bid.

This development has caused some disaffection and political rancour between the Eyong and Inyang, leading to a subtle ban on visits to Inyang by his aides or even collecting any gift from him.

So, the courtesy visit by the two aides to Inyang was viewed by the Council chairmen as betrayal and flouting directive even as the Forum of Councilors also visited Rep Inyang and collected Christmas largesse from MP.

A political leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said :"What is happening in Biase is very dirty and an unhealthy political developments. How can Council chairman Ban his aides form visiting their MP or even collecting largesse? Does the chairman think he will Remain there forever?

"This is not healthy for the young people of Biase. The same MP gave out Christmas gifts to leaders who later told their followers not to go for theirs. Those fighting Emil Inyang now because of second term should know that power is transient.

"We should avoid this politics of vendetta before it consumes all of us. Sacking aides just because they collected Christmas largesse form the MP is the most unreasonable and dirty politics to play in 21st century"
