Senator Liyel Imoke, a former Governor of Cross River has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This is contained in a terse letter addressed to the Itigidi Ward Chairman in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River and obtained by THE BEAGLE NEWS in Calabar on Thursday.

Imoke cited the protracted crisis within PDP as his reason for his resignation.

Imoke, who served as governor from 2007 to 2015, however, regretted dumping the party which he was part payment of the founding father in 1998.

"Regrettably, my resignation is due to the protracted crisis within the Party, which has made it impossible for me to effectively serve the Party and the people.

"I am grateful for the opportunities the Party has offered me to serve our nation and state as Presidential Special Adviser, Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Governor of Cross River State.

"I wish you all the best and again express my sincere appreciation for the support I enjoyed over the years.

Similarly, Senator Gershom Bassey has also tendered his resignation from the PDP through a letter addressed to his Calabar South Chairman in Cross River.

Bassey also cited the crisis in the PDP for his resignation.

According to him, "This decision has not come easily. As a founding member, i invested my time, energy, and unwavering commitment in building the PDP into a formidable political platform that once embodied the hopes and aspirations of millions of Nigerians.

"it is, therefore, with a heavy heart that i take this step.

"The persistent internal crises, deep divisions, and unresolved conflicts that have plagued the party in recent times have made it increasingly difficult to remain optimistic about its future.

"The continuous splits within the party structure have weakened its unity and eroded the values upon which it was originally founded.

"The most recent crisis has unfortunately made it clear that the party is drifting further away from its ideals that once bound us together.

"Sadly, it now appears that the PDP may not be able to recover from this situation."

An inside source told THE BEAGLE NEWS emphatically that the duo are heading to ADC as they have been discreetly romancing with the coalition party.
