PDP Has Lost Its Values, principles, Says Imoke

By Ehigimetor Igbaugba

The former first Lady of Cross River, Mrs Obioma Imoke, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost the values and principles that once inspired my loyalty and service.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the wife of Senator Liyel Imoke stated this in her resignation letter to the Itigidi ward chairman in Abi local government area the state.

In the letter, Mrs Imoke noted that she has been a committed member of the party since its inception and had the privilege of serving as a national delegate.

She pointed out that the PDP has been the only political party she has ever belonged to and has, over the years, contributed to its ideals, growth, and democratic aspirations.

She, however, noted that recent developments within the party have caused her deep concern.

She bemoaned the persistent rancour, internal discord, gross misconduct, and the manner in which the party's affairs have been managed.

According to her, "this have unfortunately placed the party in a state that no longer reflects the values and principles that once inspired my loyalty and service.

"After careful reflection, i have come to the conclusion that it is in my best interest to withdraw my membership from the party at this time."

It would be recalled that her husband and former governor of Cross River, Liyel Imoke, had last week also resigned his membership of the party, citing the protracted crisis within the PDP.

Similarly, a former senator who represented the south senatorial districts of the state, Sen. Bassey Gershom also tendered his resignation of the party.

According to him, "The persistent internal crises, deep divisions, and unresolved conflicts that have plagued the party in recent times have made it increasingly difficult to remain optimistic about its future.

"The continuous splits within the party structure have weakened its unity and eroded the values upon which it was originally founded.

"The most recent crisis has unfortunately made it clear that the party is drifting further away from its ideals that once bound us together.

"Sadly, it now appears that the PDP may not be able to recover from this situation."
