UNICROSS VC Charges Students on Academic Excellence As Varsity Holds 24th Matriculation Ceremony

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has charged newly admitted students to take their studies seriously and ensure they cultivate good character throughout their stay in the institution.

The VC gave the charge during the 24th matriculation ceremony for newly admitted students at the Calabar campus.

Prof. Bassey, expressed appreciation to the State Governor, members of the Governing Council, the University Senate, as well as parents and guardians for their continued support toward the growth and development of the university.

She reminded the matriculating students that the institution awards degrees not only on the basis of academic excellence but also on the demonstration of sound learning and good character.

She encouraged the students to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), noting that the initiative provides financial support that can help reduce the burden of educational expenses during their academic journey.

While reaffirming the university management’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, She disclosed that the best-performing department during the forthcoming Students’ Week would receive a special reward, to be personally funded from her salary as Vice-Chancellor.

On the issues of discipline, Professor Bassey cautioned the students against examination malpractice, drug abuse, indecent dressing, and other forms of misconduct capable of disrupting peace on campus.

She further urged the students to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to their studies, stressing that success and greatness are achieved through deliberate effort, dedication, and hard work.

During the event, Deans of Faculties led students from their respective faculties to take the oath of good conduct.

A total of 7,105 students across the university’s three campuses successfully completed their admission regularization.

The matriculation exercise will continue at the Ogoja and Okuku campuses on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
