Registry is Engine Room of University Progress, Says UNICAL VC

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Offiong Effanga Offiong, has described the Registry as the engine room of the University’s progress and the true image of the institution.

Prof Offiong made this statement during his maiden visit to the Registry Department.

He noted that the department serves as a bridge between the past and the present with the responsibility of advising and guiding the system to prevent mistakes and improve overall performance.

According to him, Registry staff are not merely administrators but key stakeholders who represent the identity and integrity of the University.

The University administrator charged Registry staff to shun negative attitudes toward work and to maintain a positive and professional work culture.

The Vice-Chancellor announced that all Registry staff would be made computer literate through organized training programmes and added that arrangements would be made for staff to own laptops.

He also revealed plans for the construction of a permanent Registry building and assured that management would provide the necessary equipment to ensure faster and more efficient service delivery.

Prof.Offiong further stressed that he would not tolerate an unkempt environment, noting that considerable efforts had already been made to clean the University surroundings.

He warned staff against indiscriminate disposal of waste and emphasized the need to sustain a clean and orderly workplace.

He further stated that awards and recognition would be given to hardworking staff and that such honours would be well deserved.

Earlier in her remarks, the Registrar, Dr. Chukwuka Icha, described

the Vice Chancellor as an embodiment of God’s grace, an intellectual colossus, and an administrator par excellence.

The Registrar noted that the Registry remains the hub of administrative support in the University and is committed to upholding the core values of excellence, integrity, respect, and responsibility at the University of Calabar.

Dr. Icha highlighted key challenges facing the Registry, particularly the urgent need for a central Registry building to enhance accessibility and efficiency, as well as essential office equipment such as computers, printers, and photocopying machines to ensure effective service delivery and the confidentiality of official documents.

She also appealed for the appointment of more Deputy Registrars and the employment of additional secretarial, clerical, and support staff to boost morale and meet operational demands,

While pledging the Registry’s full cooperation and support for the success of the Vice-Chancellor’s administration, she prayed that at the end of his tenure it would be said that when the righteous rule, the people rejoiced.
