PDP Warns Members Linked to ADC, Gives 48-Hour Ultimatum to Resign or Denounce Publication

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has issued  a strong warning to some of its members whose names appeared in a publication claiming they had been “approved” to serve as Local Government Area Coordinators for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The party made this known in a press statement issued and signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Prince Mike Ojisi, after its 28th State Working Committee (SWC) meeting held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

According to the statement, the party said it respects the rights of individuals to freedom of association as allowed by the Nigerian Constitution. However, it reminded members that the Electoral Act does not permit dual membership of political parties.

The statement reads: “As a democratic party, we respect the constitutional right of individuals to freedom of association. However, we must also uphold the rule of law and party discipline. The Electoral Act clearly prohibits dual membership of political parties. Therefore, any PDP member intending to join another party must first resign their membership of the PDP.”

The party directed those mentioned in the publication to either publicly deny their involvement or resign from their positions within 48 hours. It warned that failure to do so would lead to disciplinary actions as stated in the PDP constitution.

“In line with this, the State Working Committee has resolved that those whose names appeared in the said publication must, within 48 hours, either publicly denounce the claim or tender their resignation from their current positions in the party. Failure to do so will leave the party with no choice but to apply the relevant disciplinary measures as provided in our constitution,” the statement continued.

The PDP also in the statement, reaffirmed that it is not in any coalition or alliance with any political party, a position it said was confirmed during its 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held recently in Abuja.

“We wish to clearly state that the PDP is not in any coalition or alliance with any political party. This was firmly resolved at the party’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting recently held in Abuja,” the party said.

The party urged its members, especially Executive Committee members, to remain loyal and avoid any action that could be seen as defection or anti-party activity.

The statement concluded with a message of hope, promising that the PDP remains committed to promoting good governance and will work hard to return to its winning ways.

“The PDP remains committed to good governance, the unity of our members, and the development of Cross River State, especially at a time when the state is suffering from the poor leadership of the APC-led administration,” it added.

“We call on all members to stay hopeful, as better days lie ahead and the PDP is determined to return to its winning ways.”
