Osogi Flags-Off Educational Legacy Project for Abi/Yakurr Students

The Cross River state Commissioner for Environment, Hon.(Obol) Moses Osogi, has disbursed over ten million naira educational grant to about sixty successful undergraduate indigent students of various Tertiary institutions in the Country, under his 2025 Abi Students Scholarship Scheme.

  Each beneficiary received the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira (₦150,000) at the Sir Thompson Egbe Educational Foundation, venue of the event in Anong, Abi Local Government Area,

  Speaking, Hon. Osogi explained that the gesture was inspired by his personal experience as a former student of the university and deep understanding of the financial challenges facing undergraduates.

  “I passed through a rigorous process as a student in pursuit of education, and I understand the difficulties students face while navigating through school. This financial support you are receiving today will go a long way to assist you.” Osogi admonished.

Cross Section of Beneficiaries 

 He urged the benefiting students to strive to secure good grades through work hard disclosing that the scholarship programme would be sustained as a legacy project while subsequent beneficiaries must maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5

 The Environment Boss, used the opportunity to advise students to shun social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, and impersonation which are inimical to their personal growth and academic progress and expressed appreciation to the Governor, Cross River state, Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu, for his exemplary leadership qualities.

  “This empowerment initiative is part of the Governor’s vision. We are trickling down the Season of Sweetness to our people.”

  “Governor Otu’s leadership style has redefined governance in Cross River State, from human capital development to infrastructural renewal and environmental restoration, his administration has truly placed people at the center of progress. His wife, Rev. Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu, has equally been a mother to all through her impactful social interventions. I am proud to serve under such an exemplary team,” Hon. Osogi stated.

 Speaking on behalf of the Screening Committee Founding Coordinator of the Sir Thompson Egbe Educational Foundation Engr. Pringle Egbe, explained, beneficiaries were selected based on merit through a transparent process ensuring that only deserving and qualified students benefitted from the scholarship.

  Some beneficiaries, Ntarezep Elijah, Inyang Emmanuel, Bassey Nya Eja others, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Osogi for his generosity and foresight, describing the gesture as timely and transformative, amid the rising cost of education in the country.

 “This scholarship has rekindled our hope and given us the motivation to work harder. We are deeply grateful to Hon. Osogi for remembering us and for investing in our future. May God bless him abundantly.” They prayed.

  In their Goodwill messages, guests at the event lauded Hon. Osogi’s unwavering commitment to human development, describing him as an illustrious son of Abi whose visionary leadership and philanthropic spirit continue to make a lasting impact on lives across Abi/Yakurr communities and beyond 

 Similarly, the 2025/2026 Yakurr Students Scholarship Programme was officially flagged off, marking another phase of the educational initiative and reaffirming Hon. Osogi’s enduring dedication to human capital development.

According to the Commissioner, a total of ₦20 million will be disbursed to beneficiaries from Yakurr Local Government Area due to the population size and educational demography of the area.

 The well attended event drew an impressive array of dignitaries including Royal fathers from Abi, the Vice Chairman of Abi Local Government Council, the Leader of the Abi Legislative Council, Permanent Secretaries in the State, businessmen, clergy men, political stakeholders from across Abi, Yakurr, and beyond.

  It marked a significant milestone, re-echoing Osogi’s strong belief in education as a key driver of youth empowerment and community development.
