Lack of Discipline in Homes Creating Generation of ‘Lost Souls,’ Oyo V’Principal Warns

The Vice Principal of Obakilani Olarinre Ilufemiloye Secondary School, Sango Saki, Mr. Bamimore Adesola, has issued a stark warning to parents, saying the erosion of discipline in homes is breeding a generation of morally bankrupt and directionless young people.

Speaking recently during the school’s valedictory service for the Class of 2024/2025, Mr. Adesola delivered a blunt address titled “Parental Failure – How Lack of Discipline is Creating a Generation of Lost Souls.”

In his speech, the Vice Principal lamented that parental authority, once the bedrock of moral upbringing, has been replaced by permissiveness and a misguided desire to befriend children rather than lead them. “There was a time when parents raised warriors. Now, they raise weaklings,” he said. “A time when children feared their fathers’ discipline. Now, children insult their fathers online. Mothers who once corrected their daughters now watch them twerk for clout.”

He stressed that children who grow up without boundaries, correction, or the ability to hear “no” at home often become adults without self-control. According to him, such individuals are more likely to fall into addictions, irresponsibility, and destructive habits. He lamented that the fall of family values has accelerated moral decay, with children now learning from social media platforms like TikTok rather than from the guidance of their parents.

Mr. Adesola criticised the trend of overindulgent parenting, warning that giving children everything they want without effort produces lazy and entitled adults who are unprepared for life’s challenges. He also condemned the growing tendency for parents to prioritise being their child’s friend over being their leader, saying this approach creates a generation unable to handle correction, rejection, or failure.

He noted that modern youth culture increasingly prioritises pleasure over responsibility, with many young people rejecting accountability while demanding freedom. This, he argued, has contributed to rising moral compromise, social instability, and family breakdowns. He also expressed concern over young men becoming addicted to pornography, gambling, and other cheap pleasures, while many young women seek validation and attention online through sexualised content, all due to a lack of early discipline and self-respect training.

“The devil is not the problem. The parents failed. Fix your homes,” he declared, urging mothers and fathers to restore discipline, instil respect, and set firm moral boundaries if they want to safeguard the future of their children and society.

Mr. Adesola’s fiery address drew mixed reactions from the audience of parents, teachers, and students, but many acknowledged the urgency of his message in a rapidly changing social environment where technology and pop culture increasingly shape young minds.
