Ibadan PDP National 2025 Convention On Course, Says Publicity Secretary, Ologunagba,

Despite swirling rumors of internal strife, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, has assured members of the public that preparations for its November 15 national convention in Ibadan remain on course.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Ologunagba, firmly dismissed any suggestion that the event could be derailed.
“Let me be clear, the PDP convention will hold as planned. Every chapter is involved, our leaders across the country are working together and preparations are on track. There is no threat to the process,” Ologunagba stated.
He emphasized that arrangements are being executed smoothly and that the convention committee has already set its operations in motion from Ibadan.
“Our members should be rest assured that everything that needs to be done, they’re being done and in very seamless way. We are moving all over the country towards the Ibadan. Indeed, the preparatory train is already in Ibadan,” he added.
Ologunagba also addressed speculations regarding alleged discord within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), particularly after contradictory letters were sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concerning the state congresses in Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
He dismissed such reports as misunderstandings of internal party dynamics.
“What some perceive as conflict is simply democracy in action. The PDP is a party that thrives on open debate and resolves issues in line with our constitution,” he explained.
According to him, party leadership comes with responsibility, and the PDP constitution clearly defines the roles of party officials.
Referencing Section 35 of the party’s constitution, he noted,
“The national chairman provides overall leadership and can summon meetings, while the national secretary carries out administrative duties such as issuing notices and keeping records.
"The secretary cannot unilaterally call meetings or release statements without approval. Some of the confusion seen in public stems from either ignorance or deliberate mischief.”
Speaking on the suspended state congress in Cross River, Ologunagba confirmed that the NWC had paused the process and instructed the South-South Caretaker Committee to oversee the party’s activities in the state.
He also addressed issues surrounding the Akwa Ibom chapter, warning against defiance of party authority.
“Our constitution does not allow anyone to belong to two parties at once and we will not tolerate actions that undermine unity,” he said.
He further affirmed that “The meeting that produced the party’s position was properly convened, with records and videos to prove it. Anyone claiming otherwise is misleading the public.”
