Ekpenyong Unveils ₦100,000 Education Grants for 1,000 Students

By Ekanem Asuquo

Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, who represents Cross River South Senatorial District, has announced a fresh round of educational support for students across the district, with plans to award ₦100,000 each to 1,000 beneficiaries in 2026.

The initiative, known as the Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong Education Support Initiative, was disclosed in a statement issued by the senator’s constituency office. The lawmaker described the programme as a deliberate investment in human capital and a strategic effort to expand access to quality education within Cross River South.

Now in its fourth edition, the scheme is designed to assist qualified students who are indigenes and residents of the senatorial district. Beneficiaries will receive financial support to help offset academic expenses and ease the cost of schooling.

The programme is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students studying in federal and state universities, colleges of education, colleges of health technology and schools of nursing across Nigeria.

Senator Ekpenyong said applications for the 2026 edition will open on January 12, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. and close on January 21, 2026, at 11:00 p.m. He noted that eligible applicants must be from Akamkpa, Akpabuyo, Biase, Bakassi, Calabar South, Calabar Municipal or Odukpani Local Government Areas.

He explained that all submissions would undergo thorough verification, including checks on admission letters and certificates of origin, stressing that only applications submitted through the approved platforms would be processed.

Prospective beneficiaries are to apply through a dedicated WhatsApp channel provided by the constituency office. According to the senator, only applicants who complete the process through the official portal will be considered for shortlisting.

He added that shortlisted candidates would be invited for screening, noting that the final selection would be transparent, merit based and supported by an algorithm driven process in line with stated requirements.

The education support scheme forms part of Senator Ekpenyong’s broader efforts to reduce financial barriers to education and promote academic excellence among students in Cross River South.
