C'River PDP Guber Candidate Denies Criminal Record, Accuses Govt of Smear Campaign
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Cross River State, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, has denied having any criminal record, challenging anyone with evidence of wrongdoing against him to make it public.
Archibong made the statement while responding to questions from journalists in Calabar on Wednesday over an advertorial he alleged was linked to the state government and aimed at damaging his reputation ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
“I dare anyone with criminal records against me to make them public or forever remain silent,” he said, describing himself as an honest, clean and hardworking citizen.
“I have no criminal records on any matter, anywhere in Nigeria.”
The PDP candidate alleged that the advertorial was prompted by what he described as his growing support across Cross River’s three senatorial districts. He also accused the state government of maladministration and failing to provide adequate infrastructure and human development for residents.
Archibong further alleged that the government was planning to use cult groups to cause violence before, during and after the 2027 elections. He said his campaign would remain focused on issues rather than personal attacks, while accusing the administration and its supporters of promoting personality politics.
“We are aware that this government is planning unprecedented violence through cultism before, during, and after elections, but we are not afraid because God is our shield and buckler.”
