2027: Bakassi Will No Longer Be Neglected — NDC Candidate Hogan
The House of Representatives candidate for Bakassi/Akpabuyo/Calabar South Federal Constituency on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Ededem Hogan, has assured the people of Bakassi that their years of sacrifice for Nigeria will no longer be met with neglect if he is elected in 2027.
Hogan gave the assurance during a consultation visit to the Ikang Town Council and Ikot Effiom community in Bakassi Local Government Area, where he met with traditional rulers, elders, youth and women leaders.
According to him, the problem of the federal constituency has not been lack of representation, but lack of effective, competent and credible representation.
"What we are offering in NDC is competent, credible and effective representation. I am a servant-leader presented to bring hope to our land. I have the exposure, experience and competence to deliver the desired change," Hogan said.
He noted that Bakassi needs a voice in Abuja that commands attention and cannot be ignored.
"Send an individual who knows the buttons to press to make things happen. What we have suffered is not lack of representation, but lack of effective, competent and credible representation," he stressed.
Hogan rejected what he described as transactional politics, vowing not to be the type of lawmaker who only shows up during election season with cash handouts.
"Our people are not beggars. I will not come once in four years to dole out money. Instead, I will institutionalize regular consultations every two to three months, to sit with you, listen to your concerns, and ensure your voices are heard in Abuja," he promised.
The NDC candidate also pledged to establish a functional constituency liaison office in Bakassi, specifically in Ikang, to give residents real-time access to their representative. He said the office would ensure complaints and concerns are promptly transmitted to Abuja, while he himself would remain accessible at home whenever he is not on legislative duty.
He said his mission is to raise the bar of representation by tailoring interventions to the specific needs of constituents.
"The needs of traders are different from those of fishermen or farmers. Representation must reflect these realities, not reduce them to cups of rice or cash handouts. I am presenting a new standard of excellent representation that will feel the pulse of our children and empower our people meaningfully," he stated.
Outlining his legislative agenda, Hogan promised to sponsor a motion for the urgent completion of the Bakassi access road and its linkage to the Deep Seaport corridor. He also pledged to work with relevant stakeholders and agencies to restore electricity to the area and push for the full implementation of the Green Tree Agreement resettlement package for displaced families.
He further assured that he would facilitate grants, fishing inputs, cold chain facilities and loans to support fishermen and women processors, advocate for special funding to strengthen riverine education and primary healthcare, and drive youth economic empowerment through sustainable programmes and support for small and medium enterprises.
